Current Tasmanian Acts

- Select ‘Acts’, enter the first word or two from the Act title in the grey search box, then click ‘Search’.
- To search full text, use the advanced search, select ‘Acts’ in the ‘Type’ section and select ‘in the body’ from the drop down menu.
- When you are viewing an Act, click the ‘History on’ link in the top right hand corner (icon will turn green) to display the amendment history at the start of each section.

- Type in the name of the Act in the ‘keywords’ field and the year in the ‘year from’ field. Set the jurisdiction to ‘TAS’ and the document type to ‘principal Act’.
- Each Act on Lawlex has a ‘home page’ – click on the title of the Act to link to the current version of the Act on the Tasmanian Legislation website.
- The Act homepage also includes links to the Second Reading speech and explanatory note.
- You can also browse legislation by subject – scroll down past the alphabetic index to find the subject index.

Repealed Tasmanian Acts

- Type in the name of the Act in the ‘keywords’ field and the year in the ‘year from’ field. Set the jurisdiction to ‘TAS’ and the document type to ‘principal Act’. Select ‘include repealed / failed legislation’, then click ‘Search’.
- Each Act on Lawlex has a ‘home page’ – click on the title to go to the Act on the Tasmanian Legislation website.

- Coverage: Acts repealed from 1 February 1997-
- Enter words from the title of the Act in the grey search box, select a date prior to the date of repeal (e.g. the last day it was in force) in the ‘point in time’ section, then click ‘search’.
- The Office of Parliamentary Counsel’s publications page contains a list of Acts repealed in each year from 2007 including the date the repeal took effect. It also contains chronological tables of all Acts from 1826 onwards, including ‘repealed by’ information, but this only includes the title of the repealing Act. You would need to find the commencement of the repealing Act in order to work out the last day the old Act was in force.
- If you can’t find the date of repeal easily, use Lawlex as described above – it will link to the Act on the Tasmanian Legislation website.
